Oil Change Kit – 2.0L L4 CCTA / CBFA (Volkswagen)

The CCTA and CBFA are the EA113 2.0T turbocharged four-cylinders that powered Volkswagen Golf GTI, Jetta, Passat, Tiguan, Beetle, CC, and Eos from approximately 2008 to 2014. They’re also found in several Audi A3, A4, Q5, and TT applications from the same period. These engines have a well-documented weakness: oil-related valvetrain and timing chain issues when oil change intervals are stretched or the wrong spec is used.

The CCTA and CBFA engines require VW 502 00, typically an SAE 5W-40 full-SAPS oil. While newer VW 504 00 / 507 00 oils actually maintain an equally strong high-temperature film strength (HTHS ≥ 3.5 cP), they are generally thinner 30-weight oils with reduced traditional anti-wear additives (SAPS). Using a 504 00 oil in these specific older engines reduces the operational viscosity cushion and boundary layer protection right where they need it most: at the cam followers and timing chain tensioner.

Confirm your engine code is CCTA or CBFA. The later EA888 Gen1/Gen2 2.0T engines (CBFA, CAWB, CDLF) share this kit but the EA888 Gen3 and Gen4 use a different filter and may require a different oil spec.
