Oil Change Kit — 2.0L L4 CCTA / CBFA (Volkswagen)

The CCTA and CBFA are the EA113 2.0T turbocharged four-cylinders that powered Volkswagen Golf GTI, Jetta, Passat, Tiguan, Beetle, CC, and Eos from approximately 2008 to 2014. They’re also found in several Audi A3, A4, Q5, and TT applications from the same period. These engines have a well-documented weakness: oil-related valvetrain and timing chain issues when oil change intervals are stretched or the wrong spec is used.

The CCTA and CBFA require VW 502 00, SAE 5W-40. This is a full-SAPS, high-HTHS oil — the opposite of the low-SAPS oils required by newer VAG engines. Using a low-SAPS 504 00 or 507 00 oil in these engines reduces the protective film strength exactly where these engines need it most: at the cam followers and timing chain tensioner.

A 10,000 km oil change interval with the right oil is far better for this engine than a 15,000 km interval with the wrong one.

Confirm your engine code is CCTA or CBFA. The later EA888 Gen1/Gen2 2.0T engines (CBFA, CAWB, CDLF) share this kit — but the EA888 Gen3 and Gen4 use a different filter and may require a different oil spec.
