Oil Change Kit — 2.0L L4 TFSI EA888 Gen4 / EA839 (Audi / Volkswagen)

The Gen4 EA888 and EA839 are the current-generation 2.0T engines in Audi and Volkswagen products from approximately 2020 onwards. They are equipped with a gasoline particulate filter (GPF) as standard, and that single fact defines the oil requirement: VW 508 00 / 509 00, ACEA C5, SAE 0W-20. Not 502 00. Not 504 00. Not 507 00. Those older specs are not backwards compatible and will introduce ash content that shortens the GPF’s service life.

The 0W-20 viscosity is not a compromise — it is the factory spec, and it’s appropriate for these engines. The EA888 Gen4 and EA839 are precision-engineered for this oil weight. Running a heavier oil doesn’t add protection; it adds drag and reduces fuel efficiency without benefit.

Liqui Moly Top Tec 6200 0W-20 is one of the few oils that carries formal VW 508 00 and 509 00 approval. Many oils claim “suitable for” — this one carries the actual approval.

Oil capacity

5.2 Liters / 5.5 Quarts (with filter). Fill to 5.0L, start the engine, let it run 30 seconds, shut off, wait 2 minutes, then top to the correct dipstick mark.
